Obituary for Mary J. Pokeda (Lanzillo)

WATERFORD Mary J. Pokeda, 90, of Jay St. died Monday September 18, 2017 at Samaritan Hospital. Born and educated in Troy she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Rose DiManico Lanzillo. She moved to Waterford in 1965.

Mary was retired from the Weaver Oil Co. and had managed their Waterford store for 12 years. Prior to that she had worked at Price Chopper and the former A&P Co. She was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Waterford. She was an animal lover and was especially fond of dogs.

Mary was the widow of William B. Pokeda who died in 2002. She is the mother of William M. Pokeda Sr. of Saratoga and Linda M. Smethurst of Clifton Park and proud grandmother of Gregory and Matthew Smethurst and Adam Pokeda. She is predeceased by her sisters, Philomena Marro, Theresa Skogo and Rose Finn. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, her special friend Gerry Kellner and her canine companion Rosie.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11: 30 a.m. at Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte.32), Waterford. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Waterford.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday prior to the funeral from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
