Obituary for William A. O'Brien

WATERFORD William A. O’Brien, 94, of Craig Ave. died Thursday January 3, 2019 with his loving family at his side at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center. Born in Troy he was the son of the late William M. and Lillian Helfrich O’Brien. He was a 1943 graduate of Lansingburgh High School.

Bill had been employed for 31 years at GE Silicones in Waterford and retired in 1986. He was a veteran of the US Army and served during World War II. He was the recipient of a Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He enjoyed Big Band Music, especially Glenn Miller, and was an avid West Point football fan.

He is the husband of the late Helen Conboy O’Brien who died in 1996. He is father of William S. O’Brien (Robin) of Scotia, Thomas Austin O’Brien (Terese) of Latham and the late Dennis O’Brien. He is also the father in law of Linda O’Brien of Greenwich and the proud grandfather of William Fletcher, Daniel Patrick and Christopher O’Brien, Cathryn Smith, Kristina Butler, Thomas O’Brien and Kara Hiser and great grandfather of Madison Reed O’Brien, Madison Butler, Henry O’Brien, Helen and Bridget Smith, Logan and Finnegan O’Brien.

Funeral services will be Monday at noon at Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte.32), Waterford. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Waterford.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday prior to the service from 10 am – noon.
