Obituary for William Nadeau
William A. Nadeau, Uncle Bill, Billy or Pip, as he was affectionately called by his grandchildren, passed into the arms of his ever loving creator on Friday, June 28th. Bill was born on November, 1st, 1950.
He spent the majority of his life in Cohoes, NY. Bill was a graduate of Cohoes high school, class of ’69, where after he enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War from September, 1970-September, 1971. He served as Security Forces with the 4th Transportation Brigade, then with the 551st Transportation Company, and then Echo Co. 20th Infantry before returning stateside to complete his enlistment. He was given temporary reassignment to the 91st Evac-Hospital when his brother Gilbert was wounded in combat, and he volunteered while there helping to care for the sick and wounded. Bill was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam. He was also in receipt of the National Defense Service Ribbon, The Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, the Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Campaign Stars, Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle).
Bill had worked at the Albany VA, where he eventually left to go to cosmetology school start his own business “Main Street Design”, where he worked as a hairstylist until 2010. He was a lifelong member of the P.A.A. in Cohoes, NY, where he even served as the organization’s president at one point. William enjoyed nothing more than sitting around a camp fire with an ice cold drink and spending time with his children, grandchildren, extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by his companion Betty Nadeau (Wrobel), his siblings Gerald (Jake), Bernard (Chick) and Donald (Ducky) Nadeau, Royal and Barbara Niles as well as his parents, Leon G. and Bernadette Nadeau. He is survived by his children, Michelle N. and John T. Nadeau, their mother Marilyn Anderson, who was one of his closest friends and confidants, and his grandchildren Gage, Isabella, and Ashlyn. He is also survived by his siblings Beatrice (Scott) Peterson, Elizabeth Nadeau, his brothers Larry, Gilbert, Leon, Thomas Nadeau, Leo and Bernice Niles. He is also survived by his many cousins, nieces, nephews, and his long-time friend and roommate of 14 years, Jack Ishman, whom the Nadeau family would like to thank for all of his help and support over the years.
Memorial Services will be Monday at 7 pm at Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte.32), Waterford. Interment with Military Honors will be on Tuesday at 1 pm at Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Monday from 4-7npm prior to the service.
