HUNTINGTON Roman Ismael “Nino” Jaquez Hernandez, 74, of Nursery Ct. passed away Friday March 6, 2020 at VNS Hospice. Born and educated in Bonao, Dominican Republic he was the son of the late Roman Jaquez Abreu and Maria Magdalena Hernandez. He came to this country in 1996.

Roman had retired from the New York City Department of Parks and had worked as a gardener a the Ft. Tryon Park on 145th St. in Manhattan. He had an artistic flair and painted parodies of Picasso and da Vinci paintings in his retirement. He enjoyed nature and visiting the river to fish, but especially enjoyed communicating with people and telling stories.

He is survived by his wife Ynes Reyes Jaquez and his children, Elisa Maria Jaquez de Fox, Amparo Jaquez de Supierz, Miosotis Melucci, Roman Ricardo Jaquez, Emmanuel Jaquez and Isaac Jaquez. Numerous brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 pm at Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte.32), Waterford and interment will be in the Waterford Rural Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday prior to the service from noon – 1 pm.
