Obituary for Roland J. Deneault

WATERFORD Roland J. Deneault, (many knew him as “Jiggs”) passed away at the Eddy Village Green, Cohoes, NY, on Monday, January 16th, with his family by his side.

Roland was born in Waterford, NY on May 26th1932. He was the son of Paul and Leana (Bonneville)
Deneault. His parents, having been from Canada, made it possible for Roland to speak French fluently. Through the years he kept up with his relatives and friends by his many visits to Canada right up until September of 2021.

After high school he worked at Behr Manning/Norton Company, Watervliet until his first retirement,
then continued to work as an electrician, and ultimately as an electrical inspector for the New York State Board of Underwriters until his final retirement.

Roland had an abundance of his life stories to tell. Some were fascinating, some funny, some so
unbelievable yet true. He had one character trait that most would agree was truly admirable-he was
always willing and eager to lend a helping hand at the drop of a hat.

Roland’s pastimes were numerous: hunting, fishing, playing poker, watching the Mets and Bills games, the Saratoga Flat Track, gardening, cooking, camping along with other vacations. He always enjoyed time spent with his grandkids-whether he was doing things for them or taking them on a fun outing. He was a member of the Waterford Knights of Columbus where he was a past Trustee and Chancellor, the Cohoes-Waterford Elks Club, and a former member of LaFederation Franco-Americaine du New York, in Cohoes.

Roland married Millie (Doody) on November 11,1950. They were married 68 years until her passing on January 21, 2019. He is survived by his son, David R. Deneault (Sandy), and his daughter Sharon A. Bova (Rick). He was the brother of Jeanne Carter (late Warren) of Tavares. Fla., and the late Yvonne Breault (late Jack) who resided in Auburn, NY. He was the brother-in-law of Alice Lyons (late John) of Loudonville, NY, and Dorothy Bellerose (late Eugene)) of Brunswick, NY.

Roland was “Gramp”, or “Grampa”’ to his grandchildren, Robert Deneault, Daryll Deneault (Dan Castle), Brooke O’Brian (Cory), Jillian Bova and Matthew Bova. He was “Papa Roland” to his great grandchildren, Jules Elliott, Josh Elliott, Landon Bova, Mia O’Brien and Brody Sluus. He was “ Uncle Roland” to several nieces and nephews in the Carter, Breault, and Bellerose families. He had many friends and some of his closest have passed long ago.

We are eternally grateful for the most passionate care he received from the staff at Eddy Village Green, Cohoes, House 7 from his arrival on January 10th until his passing on January 16th. They helped him and all of us get through his last days with the closest attention to every one of his and our needs.

This we will focus on: We can shed tears that he is gone or we can smile that he lived.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad Street (Rte. 32), Waterford and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Waterford.
Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Waterford.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
