Obituary for Paul M. McInerney

WATERFORD Paul M. McInerney, 51, of Devitt Rd. passed away Tuesday January 31, 2023 at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City. Born in Troy he is the son of Robert D. McInerney Sr. and Elizabeth Grovenger McInerney of Waterford. He was a 1990 graduate of Waterford Halfmoon High School.

Paul was currently employed as a District Administrator with the Halfmoon Waterford Fire District. Prior to that he served as Dispatcher Supervisor with the Waterford Police Department for 27 years. He was a member of the American Legion Mohawk Post 1450 in Halfmoon and a former member of Kavanaugh Hook & Ladder Fire Department in Waterford.

Paul enjoyed golf and vacationing at Lake George, Florida and the Caribbean. He was a horse racing enthusiast and an avid Cowboys and Yankees fan. His greatest enjoyment though was spending time with his grandsons.

Paul was the “Unofficial” Mayor of Waterford. As a lifelong resident he cared for the community and the people in it as if it was his own family. His positive interaction with people made him the “Give Paul a Call” referral used by those that had dealings with him. Not many, if any, came away from seeking his assistance with anything but pure satisfaction with Paul’s ability to provide the help being sought.

His love for the community was only exceeded by his love of family. As a son and brother his family values began and as the years progressed they grew as a husband, father and the proud grandfather of “the boys”. A man with the true commitment to his wife and children to provide the material things required. But, more importantly the never ending love that a husband and father gives from the heart that far exceeds any material item he could provide. His love will be forever missed, and the love he gave will be cherished forever.

Survivors in addition to his parents include his loving wife Lisa M. Hurst McInerney and his devoted children, Lauren E. Pells of Atlanta, GA, Gabrielle L. Cox (Dylan) of Troy and Mickellen J. McInerney of Waterford. He is the brother of Robert D. McInerney Jr. (Melissa) of Madisonville, LA and is the proud grandfather of Jaxson M. and Carter J. Cox. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 am at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 119 Broad St., Waterford. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Waterford.

Relatives and friends may visit at the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St., Waterford on Tuesday from 4-8 pm.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made directly to Waterford-Halfmoon H.S., marked for The Paul McInerney Memorial Scholarship Fund. To be presented to a graduating member of the soccer team.
