Obituary for Marjory P. Roddy (Palmateer)

WATERFORD Marjory Palmateer Roddy, 91, died peacefully Thursday, January 27, 2022 in her home, surrounded by family. Marjory was a lifelong resident of Waterford where the Palmateer family has longstanding roots. Marjory was a parish administrator, and a communicant, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Troy, for more than 40 years. She was a board member of the Waterford Rural Cemetery, and a volunteer at the Waterford Historical Museum and Cultural Center. Marjory enjoyed the arts: music, ballet, theater, and visual arts. She especially liked oil painting, mostly landscapes, after being introduced to painting through an adult education class at Waterford-Halfmoon High School. She was an avid reader, and liked historical accounts, as well as novels and mysteries.

Marjory is predeceased by her loving husband William J. Roddy. They were married 51 years before his passing in 2007. Marjory is survived by her daughter Beth Anne Roddy (Waterford) and her grandsons Aidan Daft (Hoosick Falls) and Brendan Daft (Austin, TX); her son Robert William Roddy and his wife Victoria (East Greenbush); her sister-in-law Patricia Palmateer and her nephews Daniel Palmateer (Canton); David Palmateer (Pasadena, MD) and Duane Palmateer (Middlegrove); and brother-in-law Lawrence Roddy (Josephine) of South Carolina. She was predeceased by her brother Robert H. Palmateer (Halfmoon) and nephew Douglas Palmateer (Waterford). She enjoyed many great nieces and nephews who always brought her joy.

A memorial mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday February 5, 2022, at 10 am at the Cathedral of All Saints, 62 South Swan Street, Albany.
