Obituary for Margaret Ann "Peggy" Byrnes

TROY Margaret A. Byrnes, 83, formerly of Little Bear Rd. passed away Wednesday January 4, 2023 at Eddy Geriatric Center. Born in Cohoes she was the daughter of the late Robert M. and Ida Ratzel Byrnes. She was a 1957 graduate of Keveny Memorial Academy and received Masters Degrees from both Catholic University of America and the College of St. Rose.

She had served as a Sister of St Joseph of Carondelet for a number of years and taught at Keveny Memorial Academy, St. Pius X School, and also in schools in Utica, Binghamton and the Washington DC area. She taught for 33 years at the College of St. Rose and Retired in 2002. She was a private piano teacher for many years and was a member of ORFF, Schulwerk Assn., NYSSMA and the National Music Educators Assn. Peggy was also an animal lover who had rescued many dogs and cats.

Survivors include her brother Michael J. Byrnes Sr., her nieces and nephews, Gwen Frament (Art), Michael J. Byrnes Jr., Curt Byrnes (Susan) and Sean Byrnes (TamLe) as well as her grand nieces and nephews, Ashley Frament (Tim), Amanda Gonzalez (Dan), Alyssa Degnan (Jon), Mikaela (Brandon), Ian, Madalyn, Justin and Cameron Byrnes and great grand nieces and nephews Frederick and Vivienne Gonzalez, Annabelle Gubler, Addison Frament, James and Lehlani Lloyd and Evelyn McConniel.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 9:45 am from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford and at 10:30 am at St. Augustine’s Church, Lansingburgh.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday from 4-7 pm.
