WATERFORD Joseph P. Canty, Jr., 68, surrounded by his loving family embarked on his final ride on Monday, May 10, 2021.
Born in Albany, Joe was the son of the late Joseph P. Canty, Sr. and Norma Wall Canty. He graduated from Waterford High School in 1970 where he excelled at both soccer and wrestling. He worked on the Erie Canal for the NYS DOT from 1970 until 1991. Most recently, he was employed as the Building Inspector for the Village of Waterford.
Throughout his life Joe was an avid car and motorcycle enthusiast. Some of his favorite times were riding his Harley Davidson on long trips, always being there to help his friends and family and of course, making them laugh with his great sense of humor. Most importantly, Joe was an excellent husband, father and grandfather.
Joe is survived by his former wife and lifelong friend, Darla Bertrand Canty; by his adored daughters, Stephanie Canty and Cassandra Wright (Shamail); by his siblings, Linda Canty, Marilyn Oliver (George), Maureen Buechner and David Canty (Sharon). He is also survived by “Grampy’s Angels,” Jakira, Saniyah and Journee, as well as his nephew Noah Nelson and great nephew, Paris. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his niece, Courtney Oliver.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 9 a.m. in the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home,133 Broad Street, Waterford. Interment will follow in Waterford Rural Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday from 4-7 p.m.
Masks will be required and pandemic regulations observed.
