Obituary for John P. "Jack" Rumsey Jr.

TROY John “Jack” Rumsey Jr., 70, of North Ridge Estates passed away Friday September 16, 2022 at Albany Medical Center. Born in Troy he was the son of the late John P. Rumsey Sr. and Wanda North Rumsey. He was a 1970 graduate of Hoosic Valley High School and attended Quinnipiac University.

Jack received the gift of life 21½ years ago in the form of a heart transplant from his donor Scott Bates. Jack was known as “The keeper of Scotty’s heart”. He participated in transplant games throughout the country in an effort to support donor awareness and had received numerous medals as a result of his participation.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 21 years Ellen Hudak Rumsey and his siblings, Karen Rader (Douglas), Christine Koch of Clifton Park, Sandra Flagler of Tennessee, Marcia Whitaker (Dave) of Utah, Gary Rumsey (Terri) of Maryland and Eric Rumsey (Mary) of Cohoes. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 7 pm. at Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday prior to the funeral service from 4-7 pm.

Out of consideration for his immunocompromised transplant friends his family requests that those who attend his services be vaccinated.
