Obituary for Joan Naomi Kennedy (Follett)

WATERFORD Joan Naomi Kennedy, 91, of Waterford died after a brief illness on November 22 surrounded by her loving family at the Schuyler Ridge Nursing Home, Clifton Park. She was predeceased by Edward Francis Kennedy, her husband and dancing partner of more than 62 years, infant son Patrick, sister Shirley Veeder (Gary), and parents Allen Follett and Naomi Knowlton Whinnery (William).

Joan was born in Mechanicville and moved to Waterford shortly after birth. She was a 1949 graduate of Waterford High School and resided in Waterford for the rest of her life. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Waterford and involved in the parish Altar Society, Shut-In Ministries, Catholic Daughters of America, and the Mothers’ Club. Joan was an active member of the Waterford Senior Citizens where she enjoyed playing bingo, traveling to the Racino and road trips with her circle of friends. She enjoyed her Thursday evenings with the Waterford Woman's Bocci League and time spent volunteering at the Waterford Welcome Center. She always looked forward to her annual day trip to Schroon Lake to visit “Cousin Harry” (Archbishop Harry Flynn) Joan was an avid Yankees fan and most proud of being a Waterfordian.

Joan is survived by Kathy Kennedy Effenberger, Daniel Kennedy (Marian), Timothy Kennedy (Michelle), and Edward Kennedy (Theresa). Her grandchildren are Kristian, Sean (Amy), and Matthew Evans, Michael Effenberger (Amanda Kowalski), Kevin, Tara, and John Kennedy (Sara), Dr. Jenny Torre (Brett), Bridget Chiaramonte (Nick), Cassandra Ricci (Brendan), Keith (Angela), Kristina (Jeff Davenport), Chelsea and Olivia Kennedy as well as 14 great-grandchildren. She proudly shared with anyone who would listen that she had 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her nephew G. Christopher Veeder (Priscilla) and nieces Eileen Pastore and Patricia Dechard. Joan is survived by her favorite child/pet Kitty.

Funeral services will be Monday at 9:30 am from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford and at 10 am at St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Waterford.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-7 pm.
