Obituary for J. David "Dave" Farrar

WATERFORD J. David Farrar, 85, of Vanderwerken Ave. passed away Saturday November 19, 2022 at Evergreen Commons Nursing Home. Born in Troy he was the son of the late John and Grace Munckton Farrar. He was a 1955 graduate of Keveny Memorial Academy in Cohoes.

Dave had been employed at the Waterford Water Works for 38 years and retired in 1992 as Plant Foreman. He was a veteran of the US Navy and was a member of the American Legion.

He was a 67 year member and Past Chief of the F.B. Peck Hose Co., was a Northside Fire District Commissioner, and a past member of the Saratoga County Fire Advisory Board. He was a member of the Malta Senior Citizens and Camp Salvage Rod & Gun Club and a former member of the Boy Scout Troop 632 Committee. He was also a member of the Cohoes-Waterford Elks. Dave was happiest when he was with his friends and family hunting in Rural Grove, fishing at his camp on Saratoga Lake, and digging clams in Chatham, MA.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years Carol Smith Farrar, his children Dennis Farrar (Tina) of Waterford, Kevin Farrar (Maureen) of Crown Point, Brian Farrar (Christine) of Bonita Springs, FL, Denise Mead (Peter) of Columbia, MD and Glen Farrar (Cindy) of Gainesville, FL. He is the brother of Margaret Whinnery of Malta and proud grandfather of Melissa, Jessica, Ashley, Colleen, Augusta, Tyler, John and Maura and great grandfather of Elowyn and Logan. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be at 7 pm Friday Dec. 9, 2022 at Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St., (Rte. 32), Waterford. Interment with Military Honors will be Monday December 12, 2022 at 1 pm at Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday Dec. 9 from 4-7 pm prior to the funeral service.
