Obituary for George T. Jones

WATERFORD George T. Jones, beloved Father and Grandfather, 87, formerly of Waterford and Brunswick entered into eternal rest Friday, February 11, 2022 at Schuyler Ridge Nursing Home.

Born in Troy and educated in Green Island, he was the son of the late George H. and Florence Purvis Jones. George enlisted in the US Marine Corps at a young age and served honorably attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He was both a proud Marine and a musician, so naturally he played the saxophone in the Marine Corps Band 2nd Division.

George worked as a carpenter since the age of 16 and was a graduate of HVCC with a degree in construction technology. He had been employed for many years with Beltrone Construction in Latham until his retirement. He was a 50-year member and past officer of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 291 in Albany. He belonged to the Troy Pistol League and was an expert marksman. He always enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved camping, fishing and boating. He also loved traveling, cruising, casinos and most importantly, spending time with family and friends.

George is survived by his children, Scott Jones of Saratoga, Thomas Jones of Cohoes, Michelle Rought (Antony) of Cohoes and Jillann Jones of Waterford; by his step children, Lisa Wheeler (Michael) of Brunswick, David West (Jen) of Troy and Darcy Chorwat (John) all of Troy; his stepdaughter-in-law, Cheryl West; his former wife, Anne Aceto Jones as well as 18 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Etta West Jones and his stepson, Darrin West.

A funeral service will be held Monday at 7 p.m. in the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St., Waterford.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home from 4-7 prior to the service.
