Obituary for Frederick J. Shear III

WATERFORD Frederick J. Shear III passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 25, 2022.

Fred was born June 10, 1929 in Cohoes, the son of the late Frederick and Mary (Jewitt) Shear and the brother of the late Mary Lou Buckley. He grew up and lived in Waterford his whole life. Fred loved hunting with his father in his younger years. He graduated from LaSalle Institute in Troy in 1946 and attended Troy Business School.

Fred was employed by the former Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation for 38 years. He worked as a foreman in the Transportation Department and retired in 1988. He also owned and operated R Shear Trucking Inc.

Fred was a veteran of the NY Army National Guard and served as a Sergeant in the Tank Command. He was a past member of the American Legion in Clifton Park.

Fred was a communicant of St Mary's of the Assumption Church in Waterford and a member of the Perpetual Adoration Society of St. Augustine’s Church in Lansingburgh.

He enjoyed vacations in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Ogunquit, Maine and St. Augustine, Florida.

Fred dedicated his life to his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He was the husband of the late Rosemary Warnock Shear who passed away June 20, 2005. They were married on December 3, 1950 at St. Patrick's Church in Troy.

He was the loving father of Fred (Chris) Shear of Saratoga Springs, Marianne (Dan) Caruso of Clifton Park, Marlene (Matt) Drobnicki of Waterford and James (Victoria) Shear of Clifton Park. He was the cherished grandfather (Pa) of Frederick (Veronica) Shear, Jill Caruso Kirkhart (Sean), Beth Caruso Stengrevics (Nate), Stephen (Kelle) Caruso, Madeline Zeh-Shear, Krystine and Chelsea Mancucci. He was the proud great grandfather (Pa) of Case, Cole and Connor Kirkhart, Laila, Maya and Brynn Stengrevics, Sophie Caruso, Avery and Lily Molnar.

The Shear family would like to acknowledge and thank the entire staff on 3 Hathorn at the Wesley Community in Saratoga for all the love and care they gave to our father.

Arrangements are private under the direction of Philip Brendese Funeral Home, Waterford. A memorial mass will be held at a later date.
