Obituary for Elaine Steen (Gagnon)
TROY Elaine N. (Gagnon) Steen, born March 31st,1924 died peacefully on December 21, 2020 at the age of 96. Elaine was predeceased by her parents Joseph Gagnon & Lilian Ayotte and her siblings. Elaine is also predeceased by her beloved children: L/Cpl. Anthony M. Steen, James A. Steen, Terry J. Steen. Elaine is survived by her loving children Beverly (Joseph) Honsinger, William J. (Kathy) Steen Jr., Joan Clemente, Donald (John King) Steen, Lawrence (Estelle) Abrams, Helen Winchip.
Elaine is one of the longest living Gold Star Mothers of Rensselaer County, and cherished the times she served as the Grand Marshall for Lansingburgh Memorial Parades.
Elaine was a longtime resident of Cohoes and Troy NY. Elaine worked primarily as a seamstress for several years. Elaine was devoted to caring for other children, many of their memories are being with “Grandma Steen” during their childhood. Elaine enjoyed going camping with her family, watching her favorite baseball team the NY Yankees and talking on her CB radio with friends. Elaine enjoyed cooking meals for her family and celebrating the holidays with all of the people she loved. Elaine made many memories with her late friend Helen Sorel. Elaine is fondly remembered by her 19 grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and countless number of friends.
Elaine’s children and granddaughter Victoria are incredibly thankful for “The Eddy Nurses” who kept Elaine smiling during her stay there.
Memorial services due to Covid-19 restrictions will be delayed, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Elaine N. Steen to Veterans of Lansingburgh Inc., 777 1st Ave, Troy, NY 12182.
