Obituary for Anna Gniewek (Malinowski)

HALFMOON Mrs. Anna Malinowski Gniewek, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the Eddy Heritage House in Troy. Anna’s family is thankful for the loving care she received from the Eddy Services, first in her Clifton Park home, then at Eddy Memory Care at Hawthorne Ridge, and for the past 9 years at the Eddy Heritage House.

Mrs. Gniewek was born on April 9, 1929 in Oppenheim, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Piniaha) Malinoski, who immigrated here from Poland. She moved to Halfmoon as a teenager and graduated as Valedictorian from Mechanicville High School.

Annie worked as a proofreader for Williams Press in Albany for many years. She was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Waterford. She was an avid bowler, and was with the Knights of St. John Women’s Auxiliary. Her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren, sharing her Polish cooking, and gardening.

She leaves behind her family: Michael (Donna) Gniewek of Arizona; Dennis Gniewek of Florida; and Larry (Roma) Gniewek of Virginia; her sister Amelia (Frank) Pingelski of Halfmoon; 7 grandchildren: Norann Zunner, Julie (Joseph) Barker, Nathaniel Gniewek, Gabrielle(Chaz) Baines, Jacalyn Stark, Grace Gniewek and Hope Gniewek; and 3 great-grandsons; along with many nieces and nephews.

Annie was predeceased by her husband of 61 years Felix Gniewek; her son Douglas Gniewek; and a granddaughter, Faith along with several brothers and sisters.

The family would like to thank her niece, Mary Ellen Marocco for being a dedicated and loving visitor to Annie, and thank her daughter in law, Karen Gniewek Conklin for much care during her long illness.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date at the family’s request. She will be interred in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Waterford.

Those wishing may contribute in Annie’s memory to the Northeast Alzheimer’s Society.
