Obituary for Edwin R. "Ned" Skinner

WATERFORD Edwin “Ned” Skinner, 91, of Middletown Rd. died Wednesday August 1, 2018 at Samaritan Hospital. Born in Troy he was the son of the late Percy and Caroline Gall Skinner. He grew up in Watervliet and has been a Waterford resident since 1951.

Ned was employed for 35 years at Al Tech Specialty Steel Corp in Watervliet and retired in 1986. Prior to that he was a fireman for the NY Central Railroad for 5 years. He was a veteran of the US Navy and a member of the American Legion Mohawk Post 1450 in Halfmoon. He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Waterford. He was an Ordained Elder and held various other positions. A family oriented man, Ned was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years Barbara Whitehurst Skinner and his children Edwin Skinner Jr. (Bethany) of Galway and Beverly Mohr of Waterford. He is the proud grandfather of Kirsten Wolf (Brian), Sara Cichy (Ryan), Bradley Skinner (Alicia), Kayleigh Mohr and Sydney Mohr and great-grandfather of Chase and Braden Skinner, Lauryn Cichy and Olivia Wolf.

A special thank you to all of the staff at the Progressive Care Unit at Samaritan Hospital for their kindness and loving care of Ned.

It was Ned’s request that there be no viewing hours. Those who wish are invited to join with his family at his committal service at Gerald B H Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery on Monday August 6, 2018 at 10:30 a.m.
